Further to our message yesterday, the Club has now released details of the Match Categorisation Model which will govern Members’ match ticket prices for next season, affecting 20,000 fans per home game.
There is no varnishing this one – it’s pretty bad. Our response does not pull any punches.
Under the model the adult price of around 20,000 tickets per home game will be as follows:
Cat D: £32 – £52 (cup fixtures only)
Cat C: £37 – £60 (2 x PL fixtures)
Cat B: £57 – £86 (11 x PL fixtures)
Cat A: £59 – £97 (6 x PL fixtures)
This means that, for almost all league games, the price of the cheapest ticket rises by more than 50%.
Time and time again, we urged the Club that if they are going to go down the road of Match Categorisation (which has been done elsewhere for years but United have always been against) then the majority of games should stay at the basic price and only a small number of the biggest games should see the biggest ‘premium’ applied along with reduced prices for the lowest demand games.
Not only have they ignored that, but they completely failed to consult either the Fans Advisory Board or the Fans Forum on the details of this decision.
What Manchester United needs next season is a united fanbase and Club, with the team on the pitch supported by loyal and vocal fans roaring it back after the disaster that was last year. These ticketing decisions only push those regular supporters away in favour of occasional visitors. This Match Categorisation model will undermine the atmosphere in the ground in a season when the team will need more than ever.
We have released a statement to the media this morning – you can see it here:
