Newcastle United 1 vs Manchester United 4. It’s safe to say that before kick off this fixture had already become a must win (to some sections) for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I suppose in some ways I thought the same, but more important to me was an actual performance from the team.
We certainly got a performance. Although we weren’t outstanding, we weren’t mesmerizing, but as a team overall we performed. Well, apart from the opening two minutes when we quite clearly hadn’t actually switched on. Maybe that was a good thing and it woke us up, because after that we controlled the game throughout. We were by far the better team and got the result we needed.
Not that being the better team is always a guarantee to win, as I’d be lying if I said I was confident of all 3 points with a few minutes to go with the way we’ve defended so far this season.
It was a good performance though. I was pleased both Fred and McTominay started in replace of certain others, Dan James played well, Rashford did good and Juan Mata was absolutely brilliant. And he played about 89 minutes too.
A win is a win, but tonight the effort and performance was just as pleasing on the back of some very poor recent displays. Enjoy our new podcast:
