M.U.S.T. – January 2022 update

With the new year now a month old, here’s your latest update from MUST about what we’ve been up to in January.Matters on the field continue to be a mixed bag (albeit Marcus’ late winner against West Ham was probably the moment of the season so far) and the transfer window has been as quiet as a graveyard in terms of any incomings, despite the obvious shortcomings in the squad. There is also precious little noise on the new manager front.Distressingly, we also had the allegations against Mason Greenwood which emerged on Sunday. MUST made a statement on our website, but with Greenwood now under arrest it is clearly a police matter and we will not be commenting further at this stage.Richard Arnold CEO appointment – MUST open letter

Back at the beginning of the month though, Richard Arnold was appointed as the new CEO of Manchester United. We published an open letter setting out what we want his priorities to be in his new role.As we explain, we think he needs to prioritise tackling the decline on the playing side – starting with the appointment of a top class manager. He needs to rebuild trust with fans. And he needs to put in place a well-funded plan to restore Old Trafford to being one of the best grounds in the world. Our open letter got some good media coverage including from Sky Sports and this week MUST Board member Ian Stirling appeared on the BBC Sports Desk podcast discussing the Arnold appointment and the challenges facing him. Ian does a “sterling job” (pardon the pun) and you can listen to him from the 16m 50s point here.Club ownership survey

Nick Harris is putting together a project on PL club ownership for the Mail on Sunday and has asked for views of Manchester United fans. Context: we all want good owners for clubs. So what state is ownership in? What might a regulator do to improve things? It is a short survey but open for a few days only – please complete it hereFoodbank fundraisers

We’ve also had a good month on the charitable front, with more than £5,500 raised from a raffle of a shirt signed by pretty much the whole first team squad including Bruno, Cristiano and all the top stars. The money is going to the foodbank charity which Marcus Rashford supports – FareShare. This is on top of more than £20,000 raised by prize draws for foodbanks in the last year.

Thanks so much to everyone who has taken part and continues to support both the Foodbank and the MUST fundraisers. You can view and enter the regular prize draws we hold every Wednesday and Sunday. Thanks again for all of your continuing support to MUST. We could not do what we do without our Members.
