United sign Brazilian Fred

Today United confirmed that Brazilian Fred has finally joined the club for a reported £52 million, the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder put pen to paper and will join up with his new teammates after the World Cup in Russia. He becomes the seventh Brazilian player at United, the previous one are Kleberson, Anderson, Possebon, brothers Rafael da Silva and Fabio da Silva as well as current player Andreas Pereira.

Fred has said: ”I cannot wait to get started and to meet my new team-mates. I would like to thank everyone at Shakhtar Donetsk for everything they have done for me over the past five years.

“This is a very exciting time for me with my focus now fully on the World Cup with Brazil.”

Fred is 25 years old and he is out in Russia at the moment with Brazil at the World Cup, his full name is Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos and he has signed a five-year contract with United with an option to extend for a further year.

The actual deal was agreed weeks ago, but the announcement had to be delayed as Fred had to wait on a work permit being granted. He becomes our second signing this summer after Diogo Dalot joined us from Porto at the start of June for around £19 million.
