From bad to better – podcast #226

Manchester United 2 v Brighton & Hove Albion 0. What a strike from Cristiano Ronaldo last night to give us the lead and being right behind it in the Stretford End I knew it was in as soon as he hit it. Cue celebrations!

United started the second-half brightly and with more urgency, but that was not difficult after a truly awful first-half from our point of view. Brighton controlled the game, made easy passes, found space and had so much time on the ball. When they did lose it they won it back quickly. As for United’s passing when we did have, it was so wasteful and time and time again we struggled to get it out from the back into midfield and up to our forwards.

From bad to better then. I thought Sancho, Elanga did good in the first-half, along with De Gea who pulled off a tremendous save but the rest were just not at it. Thankfully others got better in the second-half, including Pogba who came off the bench but it still all seemed a struggle against 10-man Brighton who continued to play good passing football, create chances and still controlled the game in parts.

We got the win, but my word if play like we did in that first-half at Elland Road on Sunday I’m positive we will not get away with it.
