Early start for Sunderland away

It’s been eighteen months since we last played away at Sunderland. It was August 2014 and Louis van Gaal’s first competitive away game. Little did we know then we’d still be in a similar position now. We got a 1-1 draw that day with a goal from Juan Mata and van Gaal had his first point as United boss.

We had another two games after that before van Gaal finally got his first win as our boss with a 4-0 thumping of QPR. His record was very poor those first couple of months with the QPR game being his only victory is his first 6 games in charge.

18 months on and we’re still going into games unsure of what United will turn up and what way we’ll play. Two seasons ago a young Adnan Januzaj made a name for himself at this ground. Can (if he gets the chance) Will Keane to the same after being called up and included in today’s match day squad. I certainly think he has a chance.

Thinking about it he has a chance, I remember a young Giuseppe Rossi scoring his only United goal up there. A certain Federico Macheda scored one of his four United goals on the same ground too.

Either way, we’ll be supporting the team today.
