Manchester United 1 v Sheffield United 2. Last night, I got the feeling that many fans and (more importantly) many of our players presumed it would be an easy three points against bottom of the league Sheffield United. It clearly wasn’t.
Of course we should be winning games like that at home, but in the Premier League you have to turn up, perform, bust a gut and earn your victories. Unfortunately the lack of energy, desire, attitude and urgency was massively lacking from us yesterday evening.
Was our mentality wrong? Was it the pressure of now being top of the league, when the majority of our players have no idea what it is like to be in that position? If it was, then it’s a massive learning curve for the whole team as we continue to build for the future under Ole and his backroom staff.
Individually there were certain players that woefully under performed more than others, that was obvious to see. As a squad together though it is now all about the reaction and to make sure those type of performances do not happen again.
Overall, nothing has really changed for me, as even before last night there are still certain things and certain areas that we need to improve on going forward. This though, should have woken a few up!!!
