Well, it was an absolute pleasure to be inside Old Trafford once again after nearly a month since our last home game. The wait was certainly worth it though and to see some bloke called Ronaldo make his second United debut for the club was truly brilliant. Once again though, just like the Leeds game, the atmosphere in the Stretford End was rocking and by the end of the match I’d lost my voice once again.
Match wise, it was a different type of game to the Leeds one as they tried to attack as often as they could. Newcastle however, just sat in, backs to the wall and waited for us to make a mistake before trying to attack. It was a difficult afternoon for quite a while as we tried to break them down, but thankfully some brilliant movement from Ronaldo gave us the lead, not once, but twice. And after going mental celebrating his second goal in front of the Stretford End, United then never looked back.
Raphael Varane looked excellent once again and seemed to win every header he contested and overall it was a solid performance from United. Last year, we may still have won that game, maybe 2-1, whilst riding our luck and got away with a victory. This season, even though Newcastle did look dangerous when they did actually get hold of the ball, we just kept attacking and putting them under pressure and in the end, class was the difference. Great win!
