Burnley 0 v Manchester United 1. It was a happy place at Turf Moor for United last night, because when the full-time whistle went we finally put ourselves in a title race. That’s right, for the first time in a long time, we have gone top of the league in January.
There is still no time to be getting too carried away as there is a very long way to go this season. However, full credit again to Ole, the staff and all the players for their continued progression in improving us and now putting us in this position. Long may it continue.
It wasn’t easy last night either as we fell into Burnley’s trap in the first half and simply got involved in the battle too much. Burnley’s game plan was long ball, look for fouls, lump the ball in the box and it worked for them as they caused confusion and created some chances.
The second-half was completely different though, as we completely stopped giving fouls away (I think 1 foul in 35 minutes), got the ball down and played football. This meant Burnley couldn’t slow the game down and they weren’t able to get out of their own half. That allowed us to pile on the pressure and finally the goal came. Brilliant win and now roll on Sunday!
